Malaga in November: Weather, Things to Do & Is It Worth Visiting?

While November is statistically the wettest month, "wet" in Malaga means something very different from northern Europe; showers are typically brief and followed by sunshine!

With daytime temperatures around 20°C and significantly fewer tourists than in summer, November's appeal lies in the possibility of discovering Andalusia undisturbed.

Plus, you'll catch the Christmas lights going up in late November; they're famous across Europe!

What to Expect from the Weather in November

Daytime temperatures typically reach 19-21°C (66-70°F), which feels genuinely pleasant in the sunshine.

You can walk the city comfortably, sit on a terrace for lunch, and explore without heavy winter gear.

Evenings are cooler, dropping to around 11-13°C (52-55°F), so you'll definitely want a jacket once the sun goes down.

The sea temperature cools to 18-19°C (64-66°F) in November. Whether that's swimmable i'll leave up to you.

The UV index in November is low, so you can enjoy the gentle autumn sun without worrying about sunburn. Sunglasses are useful on bright days, but leave the high-SPF at home.

What's On in November

You can skip ahead to my calendar where I try to keep track of everything free happening in Malaga if you prefer!

No matter the month, there are always a few staples that are always worth catching if you're in the city.

Most museums are free on Sundays, as are the Gibralfaro Castle and the Alcazaba. P.S. The Roman Theatre is ALWAYS free.

La Merced market is on the first Sunday of each month, and the Botanical Gardens are free on Sundays too.

All Saints' Day (November 1st) sees local traditions including visits to cemeteries and eating seasonal sweets like huesos de santo (saint's bones pastries).

The Malaga Jazz Festival is held annually in November, bringing international and local artists to venues across the city.

And in late November, the Christmas lights go up! Malaga's famous display on Calle Larios typically switches on in the last week of November, and it's worth timing your visit around!

What are the best things to do in November?

November is one of the best months to explore Malaga's cultural attractions.

The mild weather is perfect for sightseeing, and you'll avoid the summer crowds at every turn!

Shorter queues everywhere and the Alcazaba, Picasso Museum, and Cathedral are all much quieter. No waiting, more time to appreciate what you're seeing.

Day trips like the Caminito del Rey, Frigiliana, Mijas, and Nerja are particularly pleasant in autumn. The hiking in Montes de Malaga is beautiful with autumn colours!

Cooler weather means heartier dishes appear on menus. Try plato de los montes (mountain plate with eggs, chorizo, and potatoes) or fresh chestnuts from street vendors. Try tapas in Malaga Old Town at your own pace.

The museums are perfect for any rainy spells with fewer crowds and more time with the art!

What Time Does the Sun Set in November?

The sun sets between 6:00pm and 5:45pm through November, with roughly 10 hours of daylight.

While shorter than summer, there's still plenty of daylight for a full day of sightseeing.

Is November a Good Time to Visit Malaga?

November is excellent for the right visitor.

You get mild weather perfect for sightseeing, the lowest prices of the year, minimal tourist crowds, an authentic local atmosphere, and the chance to catch the Christmas lights switch-on in late November.

The only reason to skip November is if you want beach swimming and guaranteed warm weather. But for culture, sightseeing, and an authentic local atmosphere, November delivers beautifully.
