Hey, I'm Heidi

I'd never been to Spain before I moved here. Not even once.

My husband and I had been living in Costa Rica for almost two years when work gave us a choice: Spain or Florida. We picked Spain. I couldn't tell you exactly why. Something about it just felt right, even though I had no idea what I was getting into.

We landed in Malaga, moved into a flat with too much ceiling and not enough storage, and I started figuring it all out from scratch. Where to buy groceries. How to order coffee without embarrassing myself. Which bus actually goes where it says it goes (not all of them, it turns out).

And then, slowly, I started falling in love with the place. Long afternoons. Late dinners. I began writing things down for friends who were thinking of visiting. "Skip that restaurant on the main square, walk two streets back, there's a place with no sign where the waiter will bring you whatever's good today." That kind of thing. The notes got longer. And somewhere along the way the notes turned into a blog, and the blog turned into this.

What Spain on Foot actually is

It's a travel blog, yes. But I'm quite particular about what that means.

Every single thing on this site comes from me actually going there. Walking the route. Sitting in the restaurant. Getting lost in the old town. I don't write about places from a press release or a quick Google unless it's a bucket or wish list that of my own that I am sharing. Otherwise, if I haven't been, it doesn't go on the site. Simple as that.

There are no sponsored posts here. No one is paying me to tell you a hotel is lovely when it isn't. If I recommend something, it's because I genuinely think it's worth your time and money. If I don't mention something, there's probably a reason.

I know that sounds like every travel blogger's origin story. But I mean it. I'd rather publish less and keep it honest than churn out content for the sake of it.
