Share Your Story

This section is for real holidays and trips in Spain, nowhere else, and nothing invented. Read through before you write anything; it'll save us both a round trip if it's not a fit.

Topic fit

Your piece has to be about an actual trip or holiday you took in Spain. Not a bucket-list place you're hoping to visit, not a country nearby, not a roundup of tips gathered from elsewhere. If you haven't been, we can't use it.

Two formats: pick whichever fits your story

Format A

A Trip Story

A personal, first-person account of a trip: what happened, what surprised you, what you'd do differently. Roughly 300 to 600 words. Doesn't need headers or a tidy structure; it needs to sound like you.

Format B

A Spain Guide

A more practical piece: what to do, where to eat, how to get around a specific place in Spain, written from your own visit, not researched secondhand. At least 600 words, broken up with subheadings so it's easy to scan.

What we publish

  • A real, first-hand trip or guide to somewhere in Spain
  • Written by you, in your own words, not generated by AI. If it reads like it came out of a chatbot, we'll ask for a rewrite or turn it down
  • Honest: the disappointing bits and wrong turns are welcome, not just the highlights
  • Original and unpublished, not a piece that's already live on your own blog or anywhere else

What we don't publish

  • Business, brand or product promotion of any kind. This isn't a listing site
  • Sponsored or paid placements. We don't pay for submissions, and we don't accept payment to publish one
  • Submissions from a brand or agency rather than the person who took the trip
  • Stock photos, or photos that aren't entirely your own

Photos

  • 3 to 10 photos from the trip itself, and every one has to be yours: nothing from stock sites, image banks, or someone else's account
  • Each photo should actually relate to the story, not generic filler
  • Any size or format is fine up to about 1600px wide; we'll resize whatever we use
  • Tell us which one you'd like as the hero image, the big photo at the top of the piece. If you don't say, we'll pick
  • Optional: a separate photo of you, if you'd like one on your author profile

What you get

  • Your piece published on its own page, under your own name
  • A short author bio alongside it, with your photo too if you send one
  • One link inside the piece, plus one on your author profile: to your blog, your social account, or wherever you'd like credited, if you have one

None of this requires a blog or a following. If you don't have one to link, that's completely fine. Your story runs exactly the same either way.

How to submit

  1. Email heidi@spainonfoot.com, and put "Story" or "Guide" in the subject line so I know which format you're sending
  2. Include your piece, your 3 to 10 photos, a one-line bio, and, if you have them, a photo of yourself, your socials and the link you'd like credited. Indicate which image you want us to use at the top of your story, the hero image
Email your submission

Every submission is reviewed before anything is published. Not everything gets published, and I'll edit for length and clarity. I'll keep it in your own voice, not mine. By sending something in, you're confirming the writing and photos are entirely your own work, and that we can edit and publish it under your name.

A note on how this works

No money changes hands in either direction. We don't pay for submissions, and we don't accept payment to publish one. Every profile and in-story link is marked as user-generated content, exactly as Google's own spam policies recommend. This section exists to host genuine reader stories about Spain, not to trade links.
