Parking in Nerja: Where to Park (Free & Paid Options)

Park at Carabeo and you're five minutes from everything that matters.
Parking in Nerja is easier than in most Costa del Sol towns, but summer can still test your patience.
The good news is that Nerja's small size works in your favour. Even if you park on the outskirts, you're only a 5-10 minute walk from the Balcón de Europa.
Park at the right spot, and the rest of your visit sorts itself out.
The Most Important Thing to Know
Nerja is built around the Balcón de Europa.
Everything you want to see, including the old town, the beaches, the restaurants, and the viewpoints, sits within a 10-minute walk of that spot.
There's no need to drive between neighbourhoods or move your car during the day.
Park once, walk everywhere, and you're done.

My Recommended Parking Spot
If you want the easiest experience, park at the Carabeo car park.

This is the best place to park because it's central and the pedestrian exit drops you directly onto the main promenade.
From here, you're a 5-minute walk from the Balcón de Europa and all the main beaches.
It's also not expensive at all and is so big you'll always find a spot.

Hotel Balcón de Europa
Prime location right on the famous Balcón de Europa with panoramic Mediterranean views.
Check PricesPaid Parking Options
If Carabeo is full (rare) or you want covered parking, here are the best paid options.
Balcon de Europa Car Park
Plaza de España car park is the most central option.
- Location: Underground, near Plaza de Espana
- Price: €1.80 per hour, €18.30 maximum per day
- Hours: Open 24 hours
- Distance to Balcón de Europa: 2-minute walk
This puts you right in the heart of the old town. If you're staying overnight or want guaranteed covered parking, this is your best bet.
Parque Verano Azul Car Park
Access from the park area near the Chanquete boat.
- Price: €1.80 per hour, €18.30 maximum per day
- Distance to centre: 5-minute walk
- Best for: Families, park visits
Same pricing as Plaza de España but slightly further from the centre.
Free Parking Options
There are several free parking areas if you don't mind a slightly longer walk.
Calle del Ingenio
This is Nerja's largest free car park, visible from the N-340 as you enter town.
- Distance to centre: 5-minute walk
- Size: Large, usually has space even in summer
- Best for: All-day parking, avoiding paid lots
Fairground Area (Calle Prolongación Hernando de Carabeo)
Near the fairground site, about a 3-4 minute walk from the old town.
- Distance to centre: 3-4 minutes
- Size: Medium
- Best for: Quick access to old town
Beach Parking

Nerja's beaches are the main draw for day-trippers.
The only beach near enough to Nerja with real parking spaces is Playa Burriana.
There aren't any paid parking options, but there are quite a few bays along the road. It's worth trying here first if your main goal is to spend the day at the beach.
Street Parking Rules
Understanding the painted lines will save you from fines:
| Line Colour | Meaning | What to Do |
|---|---|---|
| White lines | Free parking | Park here for free, no time limit |
| Blue lines | Paid parking | Pay at the meter, time-limited |
| Yellow lines | Restricted | Don't park here—loading zones, resident-only |
| Green lines | Resident-only | For local residents with permits |
| No lines | Usually free | Check for signs, but typically unrestricted |
Blue line parking exists in some parts of the old town. Pay at the meter and don't overstay your time because the ticket inspectors are annoyingly thorough.
Green zones are for residents only. Parking here as a tourist will get you fined.
Final Thoughts
My advice is to head straight to the Carabeo car park, enjoy the central parking, and walk everywhere from there.
If that's full (unlikely), Calle del Ingenio is your backup.
