Two markets, same location, completely different themes.
Nerja has two weekly markets, both held at the same spot but with entirely different characters.
The Tuesday market is where locals do their shopping: fresh produce, clothes, household goods, and the usual market fare.
The Sunday market is a proper flea market with antiques, second-hand treasures, and curiosities from vendors across Europe.
Same location, different days, different experience.
What Day is the Market in Nerja?

Nerja has two markets:
Tuesday Market (Mercadillo): Every Tuesday from 8 am to 2 pm. Fresh produce, clothes, and household goods.
Sunday Flea Market (Rastro): Every Sunday from 8 am to 2 pm. Second-hand goods, antiques, collectables.
Both are held on Calle Mirto, next to the Almijara II complex.
Neither market operates on public holidays, so check the calendar before planning your visit.
The Tuesday Market

The Tuesday market is Nerja's main weekly market.
Around 180 stalls fill the esplanade, selling fresh produce, clothes, ceramics, leather goods, and household items. It's a traditional Spanish market where locals do their weekly shop.
You'll find seasonal fruit and vegetables, olives, olive oil, honey from the Axarquía, nuts, dried fruits, and spices at the stalls.
You'll also find clothes and shoes (often cheaper than shops), household items, ceramics and pottery, leather bags, cosmetics, and natural soaps.
Most items are new rather than second-hand.
There's a bar (Genesis) across from the market if you need a break.

The Sunday flea market is completely different.
This is a proper rastro, a car boot sale organised by the local Lions Club.
You'll hear Spanish, English, German, and Dutch.
It's more international, more eclectic, and much more interesting if you like hunting for unique items.
You'll find antiques and vintage items here like old furniture, paintings, vintage toys, collectables, books in multiple languages, vinyl records, and CDs.
The Sunday market is smaller than Tuesday's but more interesting if you're after unique finds rather than practical shopping.
How to Get to the Markets

Both markets are on Calle Mirto, next to the Almijara II complex. It's on the edge of town, away from the tourist centre.
From Nerja Old Town
Walk: 20-25 minutes, mostly uphill on the way there. Easier on the way back (downhill, though you'll be carrying bags).
Bus: €1, drops you almost at the entrance. The most practical option.
Taxi: Around €7 from the Old Town. Worth it if you're travelling with family or plan to buy bulky items.
Parking
There's a free public car park metres from the market. It fills up by mid-morning on busy days, so arrive early.
See our Nerja parking guide for more options.
Is There a Night Market in Nerja?

No, Nerja doesn't have a regular night market.
Both the Tuesday and Sunday markets run from 8 am to 2 pm and close in the early afternoon.
Occasionally, the town holds special evening markets during festivals or summer events, but these aren't regular weekly occurrences.
If you're looking for an evening activity, Nerja's restaurants and bars around the Balcón de Europa are your best bet.
Nearby Markets

If you're staying in the area, the Axarquía has markets almost every day:
Monday: Torrox Costa market, about 10 minutes from Nerja. Similar to Nerja's Tuesday market.
Thursday: Frigiliana market, in the white village above Nerja. Smaller, more artisanal, worth combining with a village visit.
Friday: La Herradura market, about 15 minutes west towards Almuñécar.
If you're here for a week, you could hit four different markets: Sunday (Nerja flea market), Monday (Torrox), Tuesday (Nerja), and Thursday (Frigiliana).
Final Thoughts

The Tuesday market is where locals shop. The Sunday market is where everyone browses.
Both run from 8 am to 2 pm, both are on Calle Mirto, and both are worth the trip if you're in the area.
Now go find some olives, antiques, or whatever treasure you're after.
