The Virgen del Carmen is the patron saint of fishermen. On 16 July, coastal towns across the Costa del Sol hold processions that carry her statue through the streets and out to sea by boat.
Where to see it
Processions happen in Malaga, Torremolinos (La Carihuela), Marbella, Benalmadena, Fuengirola, El Palo, Pedregalejo, Huelin, Rincon de la Victoria, and Torre del Mar.
Each town has its own timing and traditions.

What to expect
The statue is carried through streets, then loaded onto a boat and taken out to sea. Locals follow on foot and in small boats. The atmosphere is emotional and celebratory, with music, flowers, and applause.
