On 9 October 2025, the Virgen del Gran Perdon procession departs Plaza de Capuchinos at around 20:00 and travels through Malaga's old town to the Cathedral. This is one of the city's most important religious celebrations outside Holy Week.
The route
The procession passes through Calle San Millan, Calle Hermosilla, Calle Diego de Siloe, Calle Los Negros, Calle Frailes, Plaza de la Merced, and Calle Alcazabilla before reaching the Cathedral.
Each section has a different atmosphere. The narrow streets near Capuchinos are quieter. Plaza de la Merced and Calle Alcazabilla are more crowded and festive.
What to expect
Brass bands accompany the float. Locals watch from balconies and throw flower petals as the Virgin passes. The atmosphere is emotional but celebratory.
The return procession
On 12 October 2025, the Virgin returns to Capuchinos via Calle Larios and Plaza de la Constitucion. That procession starts at 18:00 and finishes around 04:45 the next morning.
